In this one-day workshop, students will learn to place and remove sutures and staples, as well as additional advanced wound care techniques such as JP Drain management and hands-on wet-to-dry dressing use. After completion, students will receive a workshop certificate in Advanced Wound Care and Suture.
Skills Taught in this Workshop:
- Suture placement and tying
- Suture removal
- Using a needle driver to control suture needles
- Skin staple placement and removal
- Wet-to-dry practicum
- JP Drain management
Please Note: Students will be working on fresh (not live) pig skin. A synthetic suture pad is available to those students who do not wish to work with animal tissue.

These workshops are avocational in nature, meaning that they are not intended to lead to a career in the field of education but rather enhance the student’s existing healthcare training with additional skills and knowledge.
GSP Clinical Workshops consists of the two following parts:
|Approximately two hour lecture will proceed the hand-on skills portion of the lab.||Introduction to equipment and hands-on practice.|
|A book is provided to you for reference.||Practical demonstration and instructor feedback.|
|Material is presented by a Medical Doctor.||Student skill participation and guidance.|
